Numantia Falls - Faulconbridge to Sprigwood via Victory Track
Numantia Falls - Faulconbridge to Springwood, NSW

Numantia Falls is a short side track from the recently reopened Victory Track, which links Faulconbridge and Springwood and extending further to Blaxland. The Victory Track had been closed for several years due to substantial rockfalls and landslides, but it reopened in June 2025. Numantia Falls is a true hidden gem, featuring a small plunge pool at its base and a picturesque sandy beach surrounding it. This location is ideal for a refreshing swim during the summer. It is best visited after rainfall to experience a greater water flow.

Overview

Enjoyable half-day walk along Sassafras Creek, where you will visit Clarinda Falls on the way as a part of Victory Track and Numantia Falls as a side trip. Simply follow the Victory Track, Numantia Creek Track, and Sassafras Gully Walking Track if you planning to finish in Springwood. For those seeking a more extended adventure, consider incorporating additional trails to journey all the way to Blaxland for a full day of exploration.

Trail Conditions

The Victory Track from Faulconbridge and the Sassafras Gully Track to Springwood are both in good shape and easy to follow. The path along Numantia Creek to the waterfall isn't marked and has some fallen trees blocking the way, but it's still pretty easy to navigate around or over them.

Track notes:

On Sunday morning, we're meeting our hiking friends in Faulconbridge at Zensational Coffee - only coffee shop in the town - good coffee, but no breakfast. From there just a short drive to the start of the track. It's very close to train station. Which also makes this walk very convenient if you catching public transport.

Numantia Falls

We kicked off our walk on the Faulconbridge Victory Track. It's an easy path that runs alongside Sassafras Creek. After walking about 1.5km, you'll get to Clarinda Falls. It's a cute little waterfall, but surprisingly, even with all the recent rain, there wasn't much water flowing through.

After about another 1km, we get to where Sassafras Creek and Numantia Creek meet. That's our cue to turn off and head to Numantia Falls. There's no sign, so make sure you're checking your GPS to catch the turn. Keep the creek on your right and follow it straight to the waterfall. It's less than a 1km walk. The path isn't maintained and there are a few fallen trees, but it's pretty worn and easy to follow, so you won't get lost.

Getting to Numantia Falls is amazing! This place is definitely the highlight of the walk. The waterfall is beautiful, with a plunge pool at the bottom surrounded by a sandy beach and a cool cave overhang with moss-covered formations that look like stalactites. It's the perfect spot to take a break, have lunch, and enjoy the view. It's even better to visit after some rain when there's more water flowing. If you're feeling adventurous, you can climb up to the top of the waterfall. There's a not-so-well-used and slightly messy path on the right side (when you're facing the waterfall) that leads you up to the top.

Head back the same way to the Victory Track to keep going to Springwood, still following Sassafras Creek. When you reach the border between Blue Mountains NP and Sassafras Gully Reserve, we chose to take the Sassafras Gully Walking Track, which goes straight to Springwood. If you're up for a longer walk, you can extend it by sticking with the Victory Track and mixing in some other trails to head over to Blaxland, turning it into a full-day hiking adventure.
