Govetts Leap to Junction Rock and Cliff Top Track
First bushwalk of this year! Challenging 5hr loop. Starting from Govetts Leap (Blackheath) to Junction Rock, continue through Horse Track to Evans Lookout and return by Cliff Top Track.
Day trip: 5 - 6 hours loop + time spent commuting
Difficulty: challenging, some steep parts and uneven steps, good training loop, lots of elevation
Starting / Finishing point: Govetts Leap (Blackheath)
Track notes: Taking the train from Sydney Central to Blackheath, travel time about 2hr. From Blackheath train station walk to Govetts Leap lookout, 3km - 30min walk. If you drive, you can park your car at Govetts Leap - big parking space with picnic area and toilets.
Start your your walk at Govetts Leap lookout, follow Govetts Leap track in direction to Junction Rock. Steep descent towards to Bridal Veil Falls - very spectacular. Follow Rodriguez Pass along the river all the way to Junction Rock - it takes about 2hr.
Junction Rock is nice place to stop for lunch or little break. Stay on the right side or the river (this part is a bit tricky) still follow Rodriguez Pass. After 15min or so from the junction you will turn right to Horse Track and start climbing up again. If you miss the turn you can still continue on Rodriguez Pass until you join Grand Canyon Track (it will probably ad another 1.5hr to your walk).
Taking Horse Track is pretty straight forward, but the pass is narrow, loose gravel and leafs, so it's easier walk this way up, it's not the best maintained pass, but you can't get lost. It takes over an hour until you reach Evans Lookout (that's where the Grand Canyon circuit starts as well)
From Evans Lookout you take Cliff Top Track all the way back to Govetts Leap. (about 1hr walk) Get ready for some steps (good finisher) towards the end or the walk.
