Glowworm Tunnel & Dry Canyon (Wollemi NP)

Easy walk especially the Glowworm Tunnel - all well maintained and marked. Dry Canyon walk is not marked, but the pass is pretty clear and easy to access.

Day trip: 5 hours both activities + time commuting

Difficulty: easy difficulty, not much elevation, Dry Canyon path is not marked, but it's pretty easy to navigate.

Starting point: end of Glowworm Tunnel Rd for Glowworm tunnel circuit walk

Starting point of Dry Canyon: start of Pagoda Track about 3km before end of the Glowworm Tunnel Rd - one way track

Track Notes: Driving from Sydney to Lithgow - 2hr drive, meeting rest of the group at Tin Shed restaurant there. From Lithgow taking State Mine Gully Rd with merges into Glowworm Tunnel Rd - dirt road. It's about 30km to the start of the track, but takes about 1hr to drive.

Glowworm tunnel track loop - The Glow Worms are located in an old rail tunnel 400 metres in length. It was originally constructed as part of the railway line to Newnes Kerosene Shale Works. The line was dismantled around the 1940s. You need to bring torch to walk through and switch it off every time when you wanna see glow worms in the dark.

Then the Glowworm tunnel track continues to join Old Coach Rd (fire trail) and loop back through Pagoda Track back and join the first half of Glowworm Tunnel Track again.

Whole loop is about 10km. We spent 3.5hr very easy pace. It's a beautiful track with good variety of nature plants, cliffs and views.

Dry Canyon track starts about 3km before the end of Glowworm Tunnel Rd as a Pagoda Track - there are not any signage to mark the track, but the pass is pretty good and easy to walk and evidently used often. There are also area for camping just on the beginning of the track. Track goes through forest and bush with some cool rock formations around. Then it descent a bit towards the canyon. There are two section - first one bit shorter and wider and second more narrow, but all easy to walk. Rock cliffs are amazing. Then the pass leads further down into the valley, but we didn't go any further because running out of time. Not sure if there are any other canyon to walk trough or this was it. Anyway it was super impressive and lovely walk.
